Get Ready For Some Bud.TV

By Jason Lee Miller

Of all the unlikely candidates to branch into online video, Anheuser-Busch would seem high on the list - but then again, there were the frogs…and the lizards…and Cedric the Entertainer. Beer fans, get ready for Bud.TV, a Web-channel from the King of Super Bowl ads.

Already controlling nearly 49 percent of the U.S. beer market, Anheuser-Busch isn't risking losing any of those loyal customers by being inaccessible.

"We're always looking for new opportunities to connect with adult consumers on a more personal level," said August Busch IV, president, Anheuser-Busch Inc. "With adults spending more time online looking for entertainment to fit their lifestyles, we believe Bud.TV will enable us to reach them in an engaging and fun way."

A-B partnered with Wild West Picture Show, Kevin Spacey's TriggerStreet.com, LivePlanet, SEED, @radical.media, Omelet, and DDB Worldwide to produce the online programming.

The company says Bud.TV will include "branded and original proprietary content," which includes new humorous webisodes, short films, sporting events, consumer-generated content, field news reports, celebrity interviews, music downloads, mainstream programming, and comedian vignettes.

Viewers will have to use the Bud.TV desktop application to view the content, which the company says will be delivered in full-screen DVD quality. Slated first for prime time is Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show and short films from TriggerStreet.

"Supporting TriggerStreet.com since its creation four years ago, Anheuser-Busch understands the importance of encouraging promising talent in new and innovative ways," said Spacey, who founded the site.

Bud.TV also will tap into existing and forthcoming projects from partners like SEED (a division of Backyard Productions), LivePlanet, who produced Afflamon's (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) Project Greenlight, @radical.media and Omelet for reality programming and original content.

"We saw a great opportunity to partner with several of the world's most enlightened entertainment content providers into a single, unique online network," Busch said. "As adult consumers look for more entertainment options online, Bud.TV will help redefine the boundaries of emerging media."

Bud.TV is set to launch in February 2007.
